How to Check if ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity Recommend Your Business in Nepal

A step-by-step way for Nepali businesses to test whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude mention or recommend them, and what the results mean.

Quick Answer

Write 10 to 15 questions your customers would ask an AI tool, run each one in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude in a logged-out or private window, and record whether your business is named, where it appears, and which competitors and websites are mentioned instead. Repeat monthly, because AI answers change.

Step 1: Write the Questions Customers Actually Ask

Start with how a real customer would ask, not with your brand name. A customer who already knows your name is not the problem. The problem is the customer who asks an AI tool for a recommendation and never hears about you.

For a business in Nepal, include the city or area in most questions: "best dental clinic in Lalitpur", "reliable trekking agency in Pokhara for Annapurna Base Camp", "which IT college in Pokhara has UK-affiliated degrees". Add a few questions without a location, and a few that describe the problem rather than the service, such as "my business does not show up in AI search, who can help in Nepal?"

Ten to fifteen questions is enough to start. Aidiven's own public tracker uses five.

Step 2: Test in a Clean Session

AI tools personalise answers. If you are logged in to ChatGPT and have talked about your business before, it may mention you because it remembers you, not because it would recommend you to a stranger.

Use a private or incognito browser window, log out where possible, and turn off memory or chat history for the test. Run each question on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude. If you can, run each question more than once, because the same question can give different answers.

Step 3: Record What You See

For each question and each AI tool, write down four things:

  • Mentioned: was your business named at all?
  • Position: first recommendation, one of several, or only mentioned in passing?
  • Competitors: which businesses were named instead of you?
  • Sources: which websites did the AI cite or link to?

The sources column is the most useful. It shows you which websites the AI trusts for your topic in Nepal, whether that is a news site, a directory, a list article, a Reddit thread, or a competitor's website. Those are the places you need to appear.

Step 4: Read the Results by Engine

Different AI tools use different sources, so it is normal to appear in one and not in others.

  • ChatGPT searches the web using Bing and its own crawler. A clear website that states what you do and where can be enough to appear for niche questions.
  • Gemini relies on Google Search and Google Business Profile, so local Google rankings and reviews matter most.
  • Perplexity cites many sources per answer and tends to recommend businesses that several independent websites mention.
  • Claude is widely reported to use Brave Search when it searches the web, so your pages should be indexed by Brave.

Aidiven tracks itself this way in public. In its first run on 19 August 2026, Aidiven was named in 0 of 20 checks. By the second run on 4 September 2026 it was named in 4 of 20: three times by ChatGPT and once by Gemini, with Claude and Perplexity still at zero. That pattern, ChatGPT first and Perplexity and Claude last, is common for newer businesses.

Step 5: Repeat Every Month

One test is a snapshot. AI answers change as models update and as new websites are published. Re-run the same questions monthly with the same method, so you can see whether you are moving from invisible, to sometimes mentioned, to reliably recommended.

If doing this by hand takes too long, Aidiven's AI visibility tracking runs these checks every week and has an analyst review the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if ChatGPT recommends my business?

Ask ChatGPT the questions your customers would ask, in a logged-out or private window, and check whether your business is named. Repeat each question a few times, because answers vary.

Why does ChatGPT mention my business but Perplexity does not?

They use different sources. ChatGPT can rely on your own website, while Perplexity usually recommends businesses that several independent websites mention, such as directories, news sites, and list articles.

Is there a service in Nepal that tracks this for me?

Yes. Aidiven, based in Pokhara, tracks how Nepali businesses appear across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude every week, with analyst-reviewed reports.
